Ingredients – 1 cup=50gm (for Matar Paneer Recipe)
- Paneer – 500 gm
- 2 tsp cumin powder
- 1/2 tsp coriander powder
- 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
- 1/4 tsp black pepper powder
- 1 and 1/2 cup ginger-garlic paste
- 4 cups of chopped onions
- 4-5 cardamoms (choti elaichi)
- 1 Black cardamom (Badi elaichi)
- 1 and 1/2 cup chopped tomatoes
- 2 tsp of garam masala
- 250 gm peas (matar)
- 4 small sized bay leaves (tez patta)
- 1/2 tsp red chilli powder (or as per taste)
- 4 tsp of cooking oil
- 2 small Cinnamon (Daalchini)
- green chopped coriander leaves (for garnishing)
- salt (as per taste)
Procedure – (Matar Paneer Recipe)
Cut the paneer into desired pieces and fry it on medium flame till it turns half golden-brown in colour. You can also fry the peas (matar) for a better taste.
Take 1 Black Cardamom (badi elaichi), 4-5 cardamom (choti elaichi), 2 small cinnamon (dalchini) and half grind it ; do not make it a fine powder (for a better “desi feel” , crush all these spices in a pestle and mortar).
Take a fresh pan, and add 4 tsp of oil in it. Let it heat on medium flame. Once the oil is heated, add 4 small sized bay leaves (tezpatta) in it along with all the spices mentioned in step 2. Let it fry for a minute and then add the chopped onions in it . Fry the contents for another 5 minutes and next add the tomatoes. Continue to fry till a reddish brown colour is obtained.
Add 2 tsp of cumin powder, 1/2 tsp of coriander powder, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, 1/4 tsp of black pepper powder, 1/2 tsp of chilli powder and salt, as per taste. With this, add a cup of water and fry it for 2-3 minutes. Next, add ginger-garlic paste along with 2 cups of water and 2 tsp of garam masala. Fry the contents thoroughly for 10 more minutes.
Add the peas (matar) along with 1/2 cup of water and cook for 5 minutes. Similarly, now add the fried paneer and cook for another 5-7 minutes.
You can add water as required for the gravy content . Continue to cook till gravy becomes thick.
Platter the dish in a serving utensil and garnish with coriander leaves.
Enjoy your meal !
