Amongst the most famous and commonly found street food items is Pani Puri. Loved and savored by all, Pani Puri is one of the most special things about the Indian cuisine. It is enjoyed in all seasons with friends and family and it gets difficult to say no to it. Called by various names in Indian ; like Gol gappe, gup-chup, puchka, pakodi, pani batasha and many more; this dish is given the same amount of love by all.

And now it can be enjoyed at home as well. You dont need to go out every time you want to relieve your taste buds. So enjoy this easy to make pani puri recipe and do not limit yourself while eating !

Recipe for the stuffings –

1) Ingredients (For potato stuffings)

  • 300 gm boiled potatoes
  • 50 gm onions
  • chopped coriander leaves
  • 1 tsp chat masala
  • 1/2 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tsp roasted cumin powder (you can roast it on tawa and then grind it as well)
  • black salt (as per taste)
  • 1 green chilli (can add more or less according to choice)

Procedure (For potato stuffings)

Step 1

Take the boiled potatoes and chop them gently (do not mash the potatoes). Chop the onions and green chilli as well, very finely i.e. in very small size since you do not want to have giant pieces to chew while enjoying pani puri.

Step 2

In a fresh bowl, add the chopped boiled potatoes, chopped onions, chopped coriander leaves, black salt, 1 tsp roasted cumin powder, 1/2 tsp red chilli powder, 1 tsp chat masala and chopped green chilli. Mix the contents thoroughly with a spoon.

2) Ingredients (For chole matar stuffings)

  • 200 gm chole matar (white)
  • 1/2 tsp turmeric powder
  • normal salt (as per taste)
  • 1 small sized onion
  • 1 green chilli
  • 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder (optional)
  • 1/2 tsp chat masala

Procedure (For chole matar stuffings)

Step 1

Take a pressure cooker and add 150 ml of water, 200 gm matar, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder and salt as per taste. Now boil the contents for a maximum of 6-7 whistle sounds.

Step 2

Meanwhile, chop the onions and chilli in small size. Add these in a bowl along with the mixture in step 1, and add 1/2 tsp of chat masala or roasted cumin powder to it. Mix everything thoroughly.

Recipe for the tamarind based water mixture (Khatta pani).

Ingredients –

  • 50 gm tamarind (imli)
  • Mint leaves (pudina) – optional
  • 50 gm coriander leaves
  • 20 gm (around 2 in no.) green chillies
  • 1 tsp Jal Jeera powder
  • black salt (as per taste)
  • 200 ml normal water

Procedure –

Step 1-

Let the tamarinds (imli) soak in water for an hour. Once soaked, take the pulp out of them. Chop the coriander leaves, green chilli and mint leaves in small size.

Step 2-

Take a fresh bowl and the pulp, put chopped coriander leaves and green chilli, 1 tsp jal jeera powder, chopped mint leaves (if available) and black salt along with 200 ml of water in it. Blend in the contents with a blender or you can simply use a spoon.

Recipe for Spicy water mixture (Teekha pani)

Ingredients –

  • 1/2 tsp dried mango powder (aamchur powder)
  • 1/2 tsp roasted red chilli powder (roast it on tawa and grind it in a mixer)
  • ½ tsp roasted cumin powder
  • 1 tsp jal jeera powder (optional)
  • 30 gm fresh coriander leaves
  • 2 green chillies
  • black salt (as per need)
  • 200 ml normal water

Procedure –

Step 1-

Chop the coriander leaves and green chillies in small size. Take a fresh bowl and add the chopped coriander leaves, green chillies, 1/2 tsp dried mango powder, 1/2 tsp roasted red chilli powder, 1/2 tsp roasted cumin powder, jal jeera powder (do not use if you are using roasted cumin powder) and salt (as per taste) along with 200 ml normal water.

Step 2-

Mix the contents thoroughly.
