Gajar Halwa recipe

In this article there are two methods to prepare this dish on flame and one method to prepare the same in the microwave. The serving techniques have also been discussed. I have also explained the famous GAJAR KA HALWA recipe WITH KHOYA.

Gajar ka halwa is an extremely popular, quite addictive Indian sweet dish which is loved by people of all ages. Enjoy these amazing recipes to prepare gajar ka halwa in different styles during festivals, after meal sweet dish or just to fulfill your sweet tooth craving.

I learnt these amazing recipes from my grand mother (Mrs. Aarti Asthana) who has a flair of cooking and is amazing at it. This is dedicated to her.

Recipe no. 1 – Gajar ka halwa ( on flame)

Ingredients – ( 1 cup = 100 gm)

Note : Use all nuts shredded.

Procedure :


Wash and shred all the carrots. Take a pan (Kadhai) and heat it properly. Add 1 and ½ cup ghee in it and let it heat on medium flame. Then add all the shredded carrots in it and fry it for 10 minutes . After 10 mins, add 1 ltr full cream milk and 6 cardamoms in it and cook for another 10 mins till it becomes a paste . Add ½ cup raisins and all the nuts in it (leave some almonds for garnishing) ; mix the contents well and cook for another 2 mins.


Put off the flame and add ½ cup sugar powder in it. Mix it thoroughly. cover the pan with the lid and leave it for another 5 mins.


Take the dish in a serving bowl and garnish it with shredded almonds.

Note: The halwa can be enjoyed for 7 days when refrigerated.

Recipe no. 2 – (in Microwave)

Gajar ka Halwa

Ingredients: ( 1 cup = 100 gm)

  • 500 gm fresh carrots
  • 750 ml full cream milk ( preferably use full cream milk for best results)
  • ½ cup powdered sugar
  • ¼ cup all the nuts and dry fruits available (nuts should be shredded

Procedure –


Wash and shred all the carrots. Take a microwave bowl and add the carrots along with half of the full cream milk . Microwave the contents for 5 mins till it becomes a paste.


Add ½ cup powdered sugar, the remaining milk and mix it thoroughly with the help of a spoon. Microwave the contents for another 5 mins.


Take the bowl out and garnish it with shredded nuts . The instant halwa is ready to be enjoyed .

Note : The halwa can be enjoyed for 3 days when refrigerated.

Recipe no. 3 – Gajar ka halwa recipe with khoya (laddu/barfi)

Ingredients – (1 cup = 100 gm)

Procedure –


Peel the carrots and boil it in 1 ltr of milk for 10 mins. Mash it with the help of masher.

Also boil the remaining milk for 10 mins till it decreases to half of its quantity in a pan for best results and keep it for cooling. (Do not refrigerate).


Take a pan (kadhai) and heat it on medium flame. Add ghee in it and let it heat. Once heated, add the mashed carrots along with khoya and cook for 5 mins. Add the remaining milk and cook it till the milk evaporates. Now add ½ cup powdered sugar and cardamom powder and cook for a few seconds, then add ¼ cup raisins, ¼ cup nuts. Mix the content well and cook for 2 mins. Turn the flame off.


Take it on a plate and once cooled shape the mixture the way you want (spherical like laddoos) or (kite shaped like barfi).

Note: The sweet dish can be enjoyed for 7 days when refrigerated.
